Chetan Bhagat was born on 22 April 1974 to a family of government employees based in Delhi. His father was an Army officer and his mother was serving the Govt. agricultural department.
Propelling himself through the rigorous schedules of Mechanical engineering in IIT Delhi, and later MBA through IIM, Ahmedabad, Chetan Bhagat landed as an Investment Banker in a Hong Kong-based investment banking company called Goldman Sachs.
Chetan Bhagat worked for almost 10 years with Goldman Sachs before embarking on a journey of becoming a writer. He made a move towards Mumbai once he gave an assurance to himself that he is born to write. Despite cultural and religious differences, he married Anusha Suryanarayan, his classmate from IIM, who hails from Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Chetan Bhagat currently lives in Mumbai with Anusha and their two children.
Chetan Bhagat uncovered his days in IIT, Delhi through his debut novel titled Five-Point Someone: What not to do at IIT. The book is not about how to get into IIT but how you get dragged by your feet once you’re into it. The story revolves around the lives of three friends and their ways to cope with the good old education and grading system. With a fine mix of humour and thrill, Five Point Someone proved a thoroughly joyful journey.
The novel was released in 2004. Since then a million copies went on selling. Chetan Bhagat rose as the most promising contemporary fiction writer from India. The book was big a hit in a fictional category. His other novels like One Night @ the Call Center, The 3 Mistakes of My Life, 2 States, Half Girlfriend, One Indian Girl were listed as bestsellers making Bhagat one of the bestselling authors in India. The New York Times, 2008 cited him as the biggest selling English language novelist in India’s history. His four novels saw movie adaptations, the most popular being the Five Point Someone which made into 3 Idiots. The movie proved to be the most phenomenal movie in the history of Indian cinema.
Apart from his famed fictional writings Chetan Bhagat also wrote few Non-fictional works such as What Young India Wants and Making India Awesome.
Chetan Bhagat has a unique style of writing. His most of the novels are centred around youth making him celebrated authors amongst youth. His contemporary writings with a mix of decorative words create an engrossing piece of literature.
His upcoming work The Girl in Room 105 is about Keshav, who has broken up with his girlfriend but finds difficult to forget her until one day when he visits her in a hotel room number 105 and it changes everything.
