Amish Tripathi was born on 18th October 1974 to a religious family in Mumbai. His upbringing gives a clear hint of why he is so obsessed with Indian mythology. His grandfather was a Pandit and a scholar in Sanskrit and was associated with the prestigious Banaras Hindu University.
Since childhood Amish Tripathi was receiving the teachings of Hindu gods and Hindu religion, which eventually made him more inclined towards Hindu gods and mythologies. He revered history since childhood.
Amish Tripathi revealed that he was aspired to become a Historian but in the process of seeking a well-paying job he rejected the idea.
Amish Tripathi joined St. Xavier’s college in Mumbai for graduation, and later Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta for MBA. After completing his academics, he started serving finance industries which he continued for almost 14 years before turning up into writing. Amish Tripathi soon decided to take up writing as a full-time career.
Amish Tripathi, after a quite disappointing number of rejections, got his first book self-published (2010) with an assistance of his literary agent. The book titled The Immortals of Meluha is an epic take on life events of Lord Shiva, the supreme deity of Hindu mythology.
Amish Tripathi had his management lessons from IIM which helped him make his way into a finance industry, but it was in the process of publishing his first book when he made an effective utilisation of his management lessons to get the work done. So it was his creative marketing strategies, and most important, his contemporary writing style that made The Immortals of Meluha one of the fastest selling fictional novels ever.
His next two novels The Secret of Nagas and The Oath of the Vayuputras, which were published in 2011 and 2013
respectively, together with his first novel comprised the Shiva’s Trilogy.
The novels proved to be one of the fastest-selling novels in the history of Indian publishing. Nearly two million copies were printed with sales crossing 60 crores. Amish Tripathi has been listed in Forbes India’s top 100 celebrities list four times in a row, in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. He is also been honoured with Society’s Young Achievers Award for Literature in 2013.
Amish Tripathi’s intriguing take on Indian mythology and gods makes his writing distinctively different from rest of the Indian authors.
Revealing why he chose to write an Indian epic, he acknowledged the religious lessons he learned from his parents and his grandfather especially. His grandfather, together with his inclination towards history, came up as his biggest motivation for his fictional book on Indian deity.
22 June 2015, Amish Tripathi unravelled the new face, The Ram, through his book in the novel series called The Ramchandra series, dedicated to Indian epic Ramayana.
The book Scion of Ikshvaku is an adventure ride through the epic life of deity Ramayana. The Ramchandra series is considered as the prequel to the first series, i.e, The Shiva’s Trilogy.
Quite recently Amish Tripathi has published his first non-fiction title Immortal India.
